A new community initiative is making it easier than ever for Walton County residents to care for their cats while helping reduce overpopulation. Through a partnership between local organizations, veterinarians, and county leaders, residents can now apply for free spay and neuter vouchers that cover essential services for their cats.

Cats can begin reproducing as early as four months old, and just one unspayed cat can result in dozens of kittens within a single year. At the same time, access to affordable spay and neuter services can be limited in our area. This program was created to remove those barriers—making responsible pet care simple, accessible, and completely free.

Each approved voucher covers the full cost of spay or neuter surgery, including a rabies vaccine, FVRCP vaccine, and microchip. As part of the program, cats will also receive a left ear notch, a standard and humane way to indicate they have been spayed or neutered. There is no cost to participate.

Applying is quick and straightforward. Walton County residents can sign up online, and once approved, vouchers are emailed Monday through Friday. After receiving the voucher, residents will schedule directly with a participating local veterinarian and must use the voucher within 60 days. Each household is eligible for up to two vouchers, and the address on the voucher must match a valid ID or  at the time of the appointment.
